Mr Datta is a world renowned surgical academic and educator, and founder of the highly reputed ‘Wick FRCS courses’ at Caithness General Hospital, Scotland. He worked as a Consultant Surgeon at the Highland Health Board, Caithness General Hospital, Wick, Scotland between 1980 – 2005. In the early 1990s, he was invited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to hold FRCS Courses at The Lister Postgraduate Institute. For many years he conducted these courses three times a year and latterly on behalf of NES, Scotland, for the MRCS until 2010. Since 1997, Mr Datta has also conducted a number of postgraduate surgical courses in Malaysia, India, Nepal, Singapore and Sri Lanka for FRCS and MRCS. Twenty of these courses were conducted on behalf of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Currently, he is the Principal Course Tutor of The Christie FRCS course in Manchester and Executive Advisor for the Surgical Division of Doctors Academy. His former positions and accolades include: Member of Council, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2000-2012); Honorary Secretary, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2003-2007); Awarded MBE in Queen’s New Year Honours List 2009 for ‘Founder of Wick Surgical Courses and Services to Medical Training’; Awarded Farquharson award for teaching by RCSEd 2008, and; Finalist for UK Surgical Trainer of the Year Silver Scalpel Award 2001.
